Tracheostomy set for Thursday

Well, today has been a day of clarification. The morning began with Isaac in optimal conditions for extubation - vitals, nutrition, vent settings, the works. We were thrilled to see our sweet boy's face when they removed the tape & pulled out the ET tube. To see his whole face without tape or tubes...what a blessing! We must have kissed those sweet cheeks a hundred times! Isaac sailed through the first half hour, sating in the high 80's & holding a steady, comfortable heartrate. However, he was unable to cough on his own &, with the build-up of secretions in his lungs, began to tire quickly. In spite of suctioning & albuterol treatments, Isaac simply had to work too hard to breathe & grew too fatigued to clear his lungs on his own. So after nearly two hours, our sweet boy was reintubated & allowed to rest once more.

We are so proud of how well Isaac did, especially considering that he's been intubated for 9 weeks & his many issues (diaphragm, vocal chord, pharynx). He's certainly a fighter, never giving up even when its hard. Now we know for certain that a trach is the best & necessary option in moving Isaac towards recovery. He will head back to the OR on Thursday morning for the tracheostomy. Though this route is different than we had expected, we're happy to move forward in getting Isaac well enough for home. God remains faithful & even when His answer differs from our hopes, we still trust Him, knowing that He heard us & has greater plans in store. We now look ahead to surgery #5.

What precious pictures! What a blessing to have clarification and a direction. And how wonderful to be moving one step closer to going home! I will be praying for your family as always. My heart fills with joy as I see his sweet face, Patience. I know that seeing your sweet boys face today free of the tube must have filled your heart.

Love you all.

I've been checking in all day to see how things were going. Like you say - after nine weeks on a vent, Isaac did REALLY well breathing by himself for two hours. What a superstar! I know (as the mother of another little boy with HLHS) that things don't always go as planned, but at least when Isaac has his trache put in, you'll be able to see his beautiful little face all the time and it will be so much easier for you to cuddle him. Thinking of you and praying for you daily (many times a day, if I'm honest!)
With love and support,

Praise God for His wonderful awesome work thus far. Baby Isaac looks so peaceful with what he's been thru - I know that is God's comforting arms around him. Thank You God for the awesome works You've been doing, for the total control You have over this family. I pray that You continue to touch the three of them as time goes by ... continue touching them with Your Great Love, Your peacefulness and All of the many blessings you so abundantly shower over them. I pray for Thursday's surgery - that You are there guiding the doctors as they perform the trach procedure. That You comfort Isaac from any pain and comfort Patience & Jordan during the wait. And Lord, I pray that they will soon get to be at home as a family; that they can just sit back with baby, enjoy the parenting role that you've blessed them as they shepard Your Child into a Warrior for God - the next generation of Serving Our Almighty, Merciful Father. Thank You Jesus, for ALL YOU DO. In Your Name I pray. Amen

Wow! He is so cute! Praise the Lord for two hours of breathing on his own! That in itself was an answer to prayer. Above all we are so thankful that he is here with us and and progressing forward. God is so faithful!

A few questions I had that you might address later in your blog: Does he cry? and do you hear him cry? Do his vocal chords work? Also, if he gets a trach now will he get to a point where the trach would be taken out?

We are still praying that baby Isaac will get to see his beautiful room soon.

Isaac looks stronger and healthier than ever. Partly because he is incredibly adorable and partly because you can see God's healing hand upon him.

May God guide you through the next phase of your journey. I remember when my daughter, Lois(miracle child-trisomy 13-will be 6 years old on May 4th), was in and out of the hospital during her early life; that not being able to hold her was one of the most trying aspects of the situation, especially when she got a little older and could reach for us. But, her smiles still helped and Isaac will most likely have those for you, too, as it is clear that God's strength is working in that brave little boy and while I know that the trach. issue is a disappointing one, it is not one without hope and now you're working towards bringing him home with you; which is a victory in Jesus and a major joke on Satan! God Bless you and all who pray for you! Cindy Sampson, Seffner, Fl.

"There goes my hero..."

Until I discovered the beautiful story that is Isaac Leino I had never had a hero. I have an awesome family. My wife and daughter are amazing, my mom and dad are awesome, but I never had someone that I looked at and said, "I want to be like you."

well now I do

I want to be like Isaac...
I want to fight for life.
I want to inspire people to seek after God's heart.
I want to encourage people, and give them hope.
I want to change lives through the power and awe of the Holy Spirt.

Once again, thank you Patience, Jordan and Isaac. I know God is going to continue to use this experience to shake the footholds of the earth to make way for His Kingdom...

"Kudos my hero leaving all the best...You know my hero, the one thats on"
